If you’re new to eating raw food, you might be getting a little tired of explaining yourself to everyone who shares a meal with you. Sure, you’ve learned a lot with your new eating plan, and you feel better for it. And sure, there are times you don’t mind sharing that information with others.
But sometimes, really, you just want to eat in peace. For those occasions, there are simple raw foods recipes for tasty raw meals that most people wouldn’t give a second look at, they’ll seem so similar to what everyone else is eating.
The Green Smoothie: Simple to make and full of great nutrients, this smoothie can be made with spinach or any leafy greens. Mix it with apples or pears, and a touch of citrus, and you’ll get all those wonderful living enzymes in a drink that most people won’t look at you twice for drinking. Smoothies are a very popular food item, and who’s to know you made yours with raw food items instead of getting it at that smoothie stand in the mall?
Red Pepper and Tomato Soup: This tasty blend of red peppers, fresh tomatoes, a dash of freshly ground pepper and some well-soaked almonds can be mixed with some warm water to create a soup that won’t be piping hot, but it will be warm enough to feel it. If you really need a warming sensation with your soup, add half of a fresh chilli pepper, without removing the seed membrane, before blending. The added spice will heat you up.
Carrot and Avocado Lettuce Wraps with Ginger Dressing: This looks like just another Asian take-out dish, but without the MSG and overcooking. Sliced carrots and avocado strips in a leaf of lettuce, with a mix of fresh ginger, extra virgin olive oil, raw soy sauce and lemon juice mixed as a dressing. It’s fresh, crunchy, and thanks to the avocado, creamy too!
Guacamole and Flax Seed Crackers: More avocados here, but everyone loves a good, fresh guacamole. You can usually find certified raw flax crackers in your local grocery store if not, dehydrate your own at home. Be warned, this snack will look so good, others will come by to swipe some!
These are just a few examples of how, with a little clever planning, you can join in with other people while they eat, and not feel like the “crazy” outsider while eating raw foods.
