Healthy Diet for Weight Loss

If you want to lose weight, you have probably tried all sorts of diets. And, if you have tried all sorts of diets, you probably have found that a lot of them simply do not work. You start off with the best of intentions and plans, with strange and slightly uncomfortable ideas about what you are now allowed and expected to eat, and as time goes by, you lose the enthusiasm and vigor that you began with, and slowly but surely, you slide off the back of your new diet, and fall back into your old eating patterns. And that is if you are lucky.

If you are not, you will finish your diet. Does that sound wrong to you? It isn’t. One of the worst things that can happen to a dieter is to complete a diet plan. If you fall off and end up back at the start, you at least will learn what does not work for you. But if you complete a plan, you feel as though you have done something. You win. But since your diet plan is over, you are now entirely without direction. You are adrift, and the current will likely pull you right back to familiar shores, but you won’t have mapped out the route. So all you will have learned is that you can struggle, but there is no end in sight. Now that is demoralizing.

If you want to really lose weight, the first thing you have to do is redefine your expectations for the word diet. No longer can diet mean a several-week battle with limiting yourself and doing odd things that you can’t get used to, with the expectation of finishing any time soon. No, if you want to lose weight, the word diet has to become less negative. A diet is not just for a few weeks so that you can fit into that item of clothing you’ve been saving. A diet is your usual way of eating ñ it is a combination of everything that goes into your mouth. Currently, your diet probably consists of a lot of unhealthy food choices - and that’s why you need to make the change.

The change you need to make is to come up with a whole new diet plan for yourself. You have to change how you eat - not for now, but forever. Not only for better, but for good. This has to be something that you can sustain for the rest of your life. You have to be able to live with this.

The key is to start slow. You don’t have to make every change at once. Rome was not built in a day, and neither can your new diet plan. Start by adding in more healthy foods ñ especially raw foods like vegetables and fruits ñ and limiting the most unhealthy of your consumption habits. That doesn’t mean swearing off sugar on day one - it means weaning yourself onto the natural sugars in fruits in slow moves, meant to last for a long time. If you can do that, you will be able to maintain a healthy diet for decades to come.
