Zinc, sulfur, and vitamins A & C are just some of the important nutrients for beautiful skin, hair, and nails. There are others but this article will focus on these 3. Let's begin with zinc.
Zinc is an essential mineral that is needed for buidling healthy skin, hair, and nails. It is also involved in numerous aspects of cellular metabolism, being required for the catalytic activity of approximately 100 enzymes. Zinc also plays a role in immune function, protein synthesis, wound healing, DNA synthesis, cell division, supporting normal growth and development during pregnancy, childhood, and adolescence and is required for proper sense of taste and smell.
With that being said, most people don't get enough zinc in their diet. Here are a few zinc-rich recipes to boost your levels:
Green Machine Salad:
1 handful arugula
1 handful watercress
1 handful parsley
3 tbsp pumpkin seeds
Dressing:
2 tbsp Olive oil
1-2 tbsp lemon juice
Pinch of sea salt and pepper
Sulfur is a beautifying mineral since it cleanses the liver and skin, has antiseptic properties, and helps to build connective tissue. Because sulfur is a mineral that is needed for liver detoxification, the body's most important organ, consuming foods that contain sufficient quantities will better all aspects of your internal health and external appearance.
Here is a sulfur-rich raw food recipe to get you started:
Sulfur Salad
1 handful arugula
1 handful watercress
1 handful kale
1 handful broccoli heads
1 small onion, sliced
Dressing:
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 clove garlic, crushed
Pinch of sea salt and pepper
Vitamin A and vitamin C are also essential for beautifying the skin and generating the wonderful glow that so many raw foodist exude. One of the best food sources of both of these vitamins is the papaya. This delicious tropical fruit soothes the digestive tract and also contains the digestive enzyme, papain, which assists in breaking down foods and alleviating digestive distress.
Here is one of my favourite raw food recipes involving papaya:
Mexican Papaya Salad
1 papaya, seeded, skin removed, and cubed
1 avocado, cubed
1 small handful coriander, chopped
1-2 tbsp lime juice
Pinch of sea salt and pepper
